We have worked with DB Schenker by providing a Celesta mobile solution for the drivers since the year 2000.
Operating in real time in mobile devices running Android operating systems, Celesta has helped to improve the efficiency of transportation operations and made the co-ordination of logistics easier.
“Our drivers use the Celesta mobile app which communicates with our production system. Using the Celesta Plan app, our transportation planners can monitor the location of every one of our trucks on a map, in real time. Pick-up and delivery assignments are sent from our production system directly to mobile devices, from which each driver can obtain them in real time”, says Juha Uusitorppa, system development manager at DB Schenker.
For Schenker, the real-time features of Celesta have been important in improving operational efficiency.
“When a transportation planner sends a pick-up assignment or a delivery list to a driver, the driver can see it on their device screen in just a few seconds. This reduces unnecessary driving and emissions and improves the vehicle utilization rate”, Uusitorppa says.
Schenker is using Zebra TC75x mobile devices on which drivers can view and report their assignments.
“When we started using TC75x devices and the Android operating system, it was much faster to use the application than with the old solution. We are receiving a lot of positive feedback on this from our drivers, as they no longer need to wait for their devices to load data.”
